Meet our Veterinarians
Caring for animals has always been our top priority. Being a Veterinarian and working in the Veterinary field is not just a job, it is a passion!
Dr. Scott Andersen
Dr. Andersen is the President of our practice and has been a practicing Veterinarian since he graduated from The Ohio State School of Veterinary Medicine in 1982. Upon graduation, he became a partner, along with his childhood mentor Dr. John Hayes at Squire Animal Hospital in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. After managing the practice on his own for a number of years, he decided to sell the practice in 1997 to move onto his next venture, Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital. Today, Dr. Andersen is our resident Surgeon and his specialties include Orthopedic and Soft Tissue surgery as well as Internal Medicine. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife Nicole, their children and their slew of Rescue dogs and cats which make their family whole.
Dr. David Tuthill
Dr. Tuthill is our Associate Veterinarian and has been practicing Veterinary medicine since 1988 when he graduated from The Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. After spending a few years working at a general small animal practice, Dr. Tuthill found that he enjoyed the challenge that came with providing emergency care for animals in need. More than just practicing emergency medicine for the better part of 15 years he also dedicated more than 10 years to the research and academia behind it. Thankfully Dr. Tuthill has decided to return to general small animal practice where he has found a home with Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital. In his down time, Dr. Tuthill enjoys spending time with his family and playing the piano.
Dr. Scott Willens
Dr. Willens is our part time associate veterinarian and has been practicing veterinary medicine since graduating from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. Immediately after 9/11/01, Dr. Willens joined the US Army Veterinary Corps, deployed to Iraq in 2007 and is currently a Lieutenant Colonel. He is well versed in exotic animal medicine, pharmacology, toxicology and preventive medicine, having completed an aquatic animal medicine and research internship at Mystic Aquarium in 1999, a PhD in comparative biomedical sciences from North Carolina State University in 2005, and board certification in the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine in 2013. He has published several medical journal articles and a couple of book chapters. In his free time he enjoys taekwondo with his son, playing piano, downhill skiing and singing lead vocals for his rock cover band "Til September" and original rock band "Left-Over". Dr. Willens works in our office every other Saturday and as Relief Veterinarian when possible.
